Fibromyalgia and Migraines
- by Andi P.

I am 18 years old and have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and migraines.   Several months ago, my boyfriend talked me into letting Dottie give me a Myofascial Release (MFR) treatment.   Although I was reluctant at first, I finally agreed.

My first treatment was very interesting because I could not tell that anything was happening.   It was all very gentle and calm.   However the next morning when I awakened, there was absolutely no pain anywhere in my body and I felt happy.   I could not remember when that had ever happened!   And this was after the very first treatment!

A few weeks later, I had a terrible migraine and could barely walk.   I could not stand light or sound of any kind and felt like I was going to vomit.   My boyfriend helped me onto Dottie’s treatment table and approximately 30 minutes later, my migraine was completely gone!   That had never happened before – even when I took my migraine medicine!  Whenever I have received a Myofascial Release Treatment during a migraine, the pain has always been gone within 30 minutes.   This may not happen for everyone, but it happens for me.

Needless to say, I am completely sold on Myofascial Release treatments.   I continue to get treated as often as possible and I am getting better and better.   Not only does it elevate my moods but my fibromyalgia pain has lessened considerably.

Back, Knee and Ankle Pain with Range of Motion Problems - by Cindy A.

I first heard about Myofascial Release from my friend and co-worker, Dottie Drake.   The improvements in her physical pain and her mood were amazing.

I had been to physical therapy several years earlier for back spasms that never really subsided.   I went to a chiropractor one to three times per week for several years.   I also received heat/cold pack treatment and TENS therapy while there.   I was always better just after leaving the chiropractor’s office but my adjustments were not holding.

A year earlier, I had been referred to another facility for lower back pain.   Well, I really had pain in my upper, mid, and lower back, and left knee, along with an arthritic right ankle.   I completed their “strengthening program” and told them on several occasions that I felt very tight in my hips and lower back.   I also advised them this was very uncomfortable.   I was told “sometimes the pain doesn’t go away.”

In January of 2005, I had my first Myofascial Release appointment.   I immediately felt safe, comfortable and at home.   I experienced Myofascial Release first hand and it was like nothing I have ever experienced before.   I have learned so much in the past 18 months about my body, about how my emotions have affected my body as well as my injuries.   I now know why the chiropractic adjustments were not holding.   Everything in my body was so tightened down and hard.   The sustained pressures (not necessarily heavy) and techniques used to release this tightness were/are essential to the changes that needed/need to take place.   Within just a few visits I could lift my left leg much easier.   I had fallen a few years ago and had trouble with this ever since.   My hips moved much easier and my gate improved in balance, speed, and ease.   I learned that everything in the body is connected and that a symptom experienced in one part of the body may actually be driven by a restriction or imbalance in a completely different area.   My entire body received treatment and I was/am an active participant.   And this is what I am, an entire human being.   I have regained full range of motion in my left shoulder that had been limited since that same fall.

I have learned self-treatment techniques that I use to help keep myself in better shape and I can really recognize when things are going amuck and usually know why.   Myofascial Release, for me, has been life altering and there is no going back.   I need this and will continue to self-treat and seek treatment when I need help.   Although I am not completely pain free, I have hope that I can be and I am much improved in all areas of my body.
